Spring in California

Spring was in full bloom while we were in California. The hillsides were awash with wildflowers and the trees were blooming.

Our plan was to go hiking at Hite Cove, a trail I had read about. However, once we got there, it became clear to me that it was not a hike I felt comfortable doing. Maybe 30-40 years ago, but not now. It was a steep, rocky ascent to the trail and then the trail was narrow with a steep drop down to the river.

I love to walk, but I am not the most graceful of walkers. I have been known to trip on flat pavement. (In fact, my sister nicknamed me “stop, drop, and roll” on this trip). So I wasn’t too keen to be walking on this narrow path and risk falling 200 feet into the river.

I don’t know what this tree is, but it had beautiful purple blossoms and these trees were everywhere.

So instead, we stopped along the way and enjoyed the spring.

  1. Here in Italy that tree is called a Judas tree, or albero de Judea. They are flowering here too and I have just planted a couple.

Beautiful photos. I LOL’d at the tripping on flat pavement part because that’s so me! I almost fell over at the park the other day and I was barely moving.

    1. I feel better knowing I’m not alone. 😄

  3. “Stop, drop, and roll“ on this trip 🙂 Lovely pictures!

  4. A sensible decision regarding the path. I would be frightened just looking at it.
