Thistle and Fly that Looks Like a Bee

20140802-Deer-00006My thistle plants are about 5′ tall right now and starting to go to seed.  But a few are still flowering and the bees are still coming around.  Fall is on its way . . . it was 34 degrees this morning.  Brrrr.

  1. These are stunning photos.

  2. Nice photos, but the title is misleading as that is a fly.

    1. :-0. As you can tell, I don’t know my insects very well. What kind of fly is it that imitates the colors of a bee or wasp?

      1. It’s difficult to tell from the picture, but you can look here:

There are also a few European varieties (one gave me a heck of a time tracking it down).

  3. I have never seen a fly that looked like a bee either. I thought something like that was a wasp. Nice pics.

    1. You learn something new every day.

  4. I haven’t either!! Fabulous shots Maralee.

  5. Beautiful, Maralee! 34 is a wee bit chilly for my blood, which will have to thicken up soon, right?

    1. Thanks. This is my favorite time of the year. The nights are quite cool but the days are still in the 70’s and 80’s. Love it!!

I'd love to hear from you
